FusionXInvest:Global—the largest gathering of fusion industry and global investment community to date
By Lizzie Mushangwe
“The past three months have been active with fusion companies jostling for the headlines. Not long after Zap Energy confirmed details of its $130m Series D – then the biggest raise by a private fusion company since Zap Energy’s Series C – came Pacific Fusion’s big reveal. One can argue that money promised against performance is not the equivalent of money banked – the effect of missing milestones is immediate, and more or less everything can be renegotiated – but nonetheless $900m in a Series A was/is headline grabbing stuff.”
So writes Stuart Allen, CEO of FusionX Group, in our latest edition of the Fusion Energy Insights Quarterly (winging it’s way to members imminently).
These activities and more will be under discussion at FusionXInvest:Global, coming to Silicon Valley from February 12th–14th, 2025. Hosted at the iconic Computer History Museum and in collaboration with Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, this year’s event aims to bring together fusion innovators, global investors and policymakers to collaborate on accelerating the commercialisation pathways of fusion energy.
Why now for FusionXInvest:Global?
At the most recent FusionXInvest event (held in Japan in October), following discussions on supply chains and Japanese public-private partnerships, it became clear that a deeper exploration of how to build robust networks was required. Specifically, many questions remain unanswered about global commercialisation, financing and collaboration.
This expanded Silicon Valley event aims to tackle these issues head-on by leveraging insights from leading stakeholders and the expertise of fusion pioneers.
The fusion energy sector is advancing rapidly, and the FusionXInvest:Global event is designed to address critical questions about the path to market, the technological opportunities it presents and the hurdles it must overcome.
In short, FusionXInvest is happening now because the fusion ecosystem is ready for action. The industry has entered a new phase, with companies transitioning from research to planning for commercial demo devices and power plants.
What’s the buzz?
Highlights from the expanded 2-day agenda include:
● Fusion in investment portfolios: Industry leaders like Carly Anderson (Prelude Ventures) and Phil Larochelle (Breakthrough Energy Ventures) will explore why investor interest in fusion is growing and discuss strategies for integrating fusion into deep-tech and climate investment portfolios.
● Building value on the path to commercialisation: Senior figures from TAE, Tokamak Energy, and Zap Energy will debate the challenges of achieving break-even and how companies can navigate shifting financial landscapes.
● Public sector support: Policymakers from entities such as the UKAEA and the U.S. Department of Energy will discuss strategies to align public and private efforts in advancing fusion energy.
● Opportunities in alternative approaches: Innovators from Avalanche Energy, Marvel Fusion, and First Light Fusion will present emerging technologies and novel applications, highlighting the diversity of fusion energy solutions.
The conference will conclude with a Networking Day, including an exclusive visit to the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, offering attendees a rare glimpse into the cutting-edge research that’s pushing fusion technology closer to reality.
Note: Any foreign nationals that would like to join the networking day need to register right now—by Friday 13th December. Americans have a little longer, but places are limited and going fast.
Should you attend?
If you’re in one of the below groups—yes!! Attendees will have the chance to meet the entire global fusion and financing value chain in one place.
● Fusion investors: Understand the timing, risks and opportunities of investing in fusion energy.
● Fusion innovators: Engage with investors and suppliers and secure critical partnerships.
● Supply chain companies: Connect with both investors and fusion developers to explore avenues for growth.
This year’s expanded format ensures comprehensive discussions, actionable insights and meaningful connections to drive the fusion sector forward.
And we’ll be there too! Fusion Energy Insights is a founding partner of FusionXInvest and Melanie will be there moderating some panels and trying out the latest cocktail from Avalanche Energy (themed again, we hope!).
What’s next?
Register, of course!
We’ll see you in Silicon Valley. Let’s shape the future of fusion energy.
