Explainer – Fusion Organisations
There are a number of organisations now publicising or advocating for fusion, aside from national labs and universities, and it is likely more will emerge too. So, here’s a list of some of the different current supportive organisations and what they do in fusion.
The list is alphabetical with organisations divided into two groups – those that are directly fusion related and those that are broader organisations which support fusion as well as other activities.

Directly Fusion Related
Fusion Cluster, UK: The UK Fusion Cluster is a network of organisations, including research institutions, businesses and government bodies, focused on advancing fusion energy research and development within the United Kingdom. It fosters collaboration and innovation to accelerate progress in the field.
Fusion Energy Insights: Fusion Energy Insights is an organisation dedicated to providing independent analysis, news and information about developments in the fusion energy sector. It offers insights into research, policy and commercial advancements in fusion energy.
Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee (FESAC): FESAC is an advisory committee that provides guidance and recommendations to the US Department of Energy's Office of Fusion Energy Sciences. It advises on research priorities, programmatic strategies and funding allocations to support the advancement of fusion energy science and technology.
Fusion Industry Association (FIA): FIA is a collective voice representing private companies developing fusion energy or propulsion concepts around the world. It advocates for policies supporting fusion energy development globally.
Fusion Industry Taskforce (FIT), UK: This taskforce, operated under Assystem, a global engineering and innovation consultancy firm, is dedicated to advancing the interests and capabilities of the fusion supply chain in the UK. It is an independent voice directly into government on how to grow a world-leading fusion sector and involves academia as well as the private sector.
Fusion Power Associates (FPA): Fusion Power Associates is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing fusion energy research and development. It provides information, analysis and advocacy to support the progress of fusion as a clean and sustainable energy source.
Fusion Taskforce, UK: A taskforce set up by Andrew Bowie MP to hear views from representatives of private fusion and the supply chain. It aims to help government formulate potential interventions to help drive strong UK growth in private sector fusion and to identify any potential barriers.
Stellar Energy Foundation: The Stellar Energy Foundation is a research and advocacy organisation focused on promoting the development and adoption of fusion technology. It supports research, education and outreach efforts aimed at advancing fusion as a viable energy source.
US Fusion Energy: "US Fusion Energy" refers to various entities, including government agencies, research institutions and industry stakeholders, involved in fusion energy research and development within the United States. These entities collaborate on fusion outreach
Broader Organisations
Clean Air Task Force (CATF): CATF is a non-profit organisation focused on reducing air pollution and addressing climate change through policy advocacy, technological innovation and public engagement. While not exclusively focused on fusion energy, it supports clean energy initiatives, including fusion, as part of its broader mission.
Energy for the Common Good: ECG is a non-profit advancing the acceptance of fusion energy as an integral part of a clean energy economy. ECG is engaging NGOs, industry, government, scientists, and individuals to build awareness and support for fusion energy and ensure that the means for rapid development and deployment are in place well before the first commercial fusion devices are built.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA): The International Atomic Energy Agency is the world's central intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical cooperation in the nuclear field. It works for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology, contributing to international peace and security and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Their remit includes fusion and they are becoming increasingly active in this area.
Nuclear Institute: The NI is a professional membership body dedicated to the nuclear sector. Their national network provides a place for the nuclear community to interact through an events programme, branch network, special interest groups and volunteer-led activities. They have a fusion group.
